Blogmas Day Ten - The Christmas Chronicles: Review

This Christmas has appeared to be the season of cute and cheesy Netflix original Christmas films with movies such as The Christmas Prince 2, Princess Switch and The Christmas Chronicles. I’m a sucker for this genre so I, for one, am happy that Netflix is providing us with all this content.

Last night, I ticked another off my list by watching The Christmas Chronicles which had everything you could possibly want from a Christmas film: cute little girl with a strong belief in Santa, Reindeers, Elves, a sibling relationship that strengthens throughout the film and then obviously, Kurt Russell as Santa.

The film follows the Pierce family, who are all struggling in their own way after tragedy strikes them. Kate and Teddy are brother and sister and both are coping with their feelings differently. Teddy’s heading down a troubled path, whereas Kate immerses herself in watching old family Christmas videos and recording her own video for Santa. The sibling’s relationship has been damaged over the past few years and all their Mother wants from that Christmas is for her kids to once again get along.
On Christmas Eve, Kate and Teddy bond for the first time in a long time when they decide to try and catch Santa on camera. However, this is a Christmas film so obviously things don’t exactly go to plan as the Pierce siblings have the weight of Christmas on their shoulders as they race against time with Santa.

I loved everything about this film (even if it did make me cry within the first fifteen minutes) and it’s definitely one of those movies that will have to be repeated during Christmas seasons to come.
As with any family centred Christmas film, The Christmas Chronicles teaches the importance of family and being surrounded by those you love; particularly during the holiday season. It also highlights how important Christmas is; how the holiday tends to bring people together and how much it matters to a lot of people to have something like Santa to believe in. It truly emphasises the magic of Christmas and if that sounds too cheesy for you, then it’s probably best you avoid this film. However, if you’re like me and you love films that are as cheesy as a four-cheese melt then The Christmas Chronicles should definitely be on your list of films to watch during the holidays. It will make you cry, though so don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Have you watched The Christmas Chronicles yet? If so, let me know your thoughts! If you haven’t watched it – will you now be going to stream it on Netflix?
