Blogmas Day Six - Coffee Shops At Christmas
Now that the cold weather that unfortunately comes with the Christmas season has really start to set in; we all find ourselves bundling up in big jumpers and fluffy coats galore. With work, Christmas shopping, theatre trips and other social activities piling up even more during Christmas; there’s no escaping the cold weather and this is why coffee shop dates become more popular during the festive season.
Coffee shops have over the years gotten more and more into embracing the festivities and during the Christmas period, you can walk into your favourite coffee shop and be greeted with an array of Christmas themed hot drinks and a selection of sweet and savoury foods to pick from; all catered to your Christmas loving heart.
My girlfriend and I have been taking advantage of the escape of a warm coffee shop, sipping on a festive drink and sometimes getting to hum/sing along to the Christmas music playing.
The excitement in the lead up to Christmas for me also includes the wonder of what each of the mainstream coffee shop menus will bring in each Christmas season. Will someone have a white hot chocolate on offer? What will each of their Christmas cups look like? The questions are endless and simply add to the excitement the Christmas season brings.
I’m not a coffee drinker (I can feel the judging looks from the screen) so my drinks of choice will always be hot chocolates and teas. During Christmas, I always love seeing what special hot chocolates are on offer (I think my favourite will always be last year’s Millionaires Shortbread Hot Chocolate from Costa).
As I mentioned, my girlfriend and I have been having a lot of coffee shop dates amidst work and Christmas shopping. This week alone, I’ve tried Starbucks’ Salted Caramel Brownie Hot Chocolate (which is probably my favourite out of the hot chocolates this year) and Caffè Nero’s Belgian Truffle Hot Chocolate - which gave Starbucks competition for number one spot.
As soon as Costa launched their Christmas menu, I made sure to get over and try their Hazelnut and Praline Cream Hot chocolate. Unfortunately, and surprisingly, I was quite disappointed with this one. I would have expected to have loved it considering I’m a fan of the flavours but it was too sweet for me and I could barely finish the medium sized drink.
Costa definitely have me won over with their festive cups though. Ranging from a blue coloured cup donning a penguin, the classic red with a snowman and then the purple cup with a gingerbread man. The cups are cute, colourful and inject that Christmas magic into your lives; something I can personally never get enough of.
My bank account may not be a fan of it but I definitely love the excuse of having more coffee shop dates that Christmas brings.
Have you tried any of the Christmas menus? What’s your favourite drink? Let me know in the comments!
