Mary Poppins Afternoon Tea At Aqua Shard - Review

A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down but it definitely wasn’t needed to help the delicious treats at the Aqua Shard’s Mary Poppins Afternoon Tea go down. Yesterday, my girlfriend and I were lucky enough to have a date night spent on the 31st floor of The Shard, sipping on ‘Mary’s Tea’, taking in the sweet smell of candy floss being churned and indulging on savoury and sweet treats alike!

The Afternoon Tea is available as an homage to P.L Travers books and puts a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious twist on the classic British Afternoon Tea; offering up a selection of tasty sandwiches ranging from a crab and cucumber brioche to Mary’s favourite; crumpets which was served with smoked salmon and cream cheese. Once your savoury palettes are satisfied; you’re greeted with a tea stand with an umbrella on top and boots below it, that presented you with delicious treats such as ‘Strike Me Pink’ sponge and a ‘back to front zoo’ golden syrup tart. By the end of it, you’re guaranteed to be full to the brim but that doesn’t mean you’d be able to resist the fairground candy floss that is made in front of you.

As well as offering you delicious treats to feast on, your surroundings all have a Mary Poppins touch to them; from waiters dressed in dapper striped waist-coats and straw boater hats to teacups and saucers presenting intricate and beautiful designs of everyone’s favourite Nanny. The only way I can describe the Afternoon Tea at The Aqua Shard is: your childhood comes to life presented with the elegance and sophistication of Mary Poppins and The Shard. Like Mary herself; this Afternoon Tea was practically perfect in every way.

So, if this has wet your appetite and you want to experience the afternoon tea yourself, then you’re in luck, because the Mary Poppins Afternoon Tea is available until April 2019. Prices range from £49 per person (the one we went with) or £66 or £72 per person for the champagne or Rosé options. It is definitely worth every penny; especially as you get to enjoy the whole experience with the added bonus of the incredible London views!
