5 Reasons Why The Incredibles 2 Was Worth The 14 Year Wait
Friday the 13th is generally known for its bad
luck, and though it was made worse for the UK because Donald Trump was
visiting, it also marked the release day of The Incredibles 2. To say this was
a highly anticipated “grown ups pushing kids out of the way” esque release
would be an understatement. We waited fourteen years and finally the day
arrived (roughly a month after the American release, annoyingly) that we were
to be reunited with the Parr family where they’d left off in The Incredibles.
As with any sequel, there’s always the worries of whether it will live up to
the first film or whether it would be overkill. However, Disney/Pixar did not
disappoint with this explosive sequel. Before I continue, I’d like to give a
special mention to the heart-warming and enjoyable short before the film
started – Bao.
Helen/Elastigirl
Being At the Forefront
Mrs. Incredible is an amazing female superhero, a loving and
strong wife and mother, and a role model to other female supers. Whilst the
first film gave us a sense of her character and the type of strong female icon
she is; the sequel really focused on this. The conscientious decision to have a
female protagonist was definitely well-received by audiences and I’m glad to
see that a female superhero that also happens to be a wife and mother can be so
loved by so many and can act as a role model to women and girls of all ages.
Jack-Jack’s Powers
Like Mr. Incredible, Jack-Jack getting his powers is
something we were all waiting for and it definitely did not disappoint. From
the hilarity of Jack-Jack’s fight with the racoon to him being an integral part
of the Incredible family fighting together; it was definitely a case of a
cinema full of people feeling like proud parents as we watched Jack-Jack’s
laser eyes and his ability to self-duplicate. Jack-Jack has a whole range of
powers and this was a big part of the enjoyable experience of The Incredibles
2, and meant that the film included the baby more, which – I can confirm – was
a very popular decision amongst fans.
More Screen Time For
Fan Favourites
It is a well-known fact (yes fact, not opinion) that Edna
Mode is a style icon and is one of Pixar’s most loved characters. To make it
even better, she had a pivotal involvement in the development of Jack-Jack’s
powers and super suit and as ever, she was ready with her quips and one-liners;
once again capturing the hearts of the audience. Aside from Edna though, we
also got to see more of Frozone and his involvement in the fight against the
ban on Supers and standing by The Incredibles; there as soon as they needed him
and his help. We got introduced to a plethora of new characters in this film,
but nothing beats the reapperances of fan favourites.
Introduction of New
Supers
As I mentioned earlier, we were introduced a heap of new
characters in The Incredibles 2, and this happened to include a whole bunch of
new supers; each from varying backgrounds with their own unique powers. It was
so refreshing to see a diverse group of supers; further adding to the
inclusiveness of this film and serving as role models for movie-goers. With her
bubblegum blue hair, lovable personality, her admiration of Elastigirl and her
power of Dimensional Teleportation; Voyd quickly became my favourite out of all
the new Supers (this was very much helped by the fact that she is voiced by
Sophia Bush). As well as the new superheroes, we were also introduced to
siblings Winston and Evelyn Deavor; both with completely different ambitions
and views on Superheroes.
Having The Parr
Family Back
This seems like quite a simple reason for why the 14 year
wait was worth it, but waiting that long meant the reunion with Mr and Mrs
Incredible, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack was well worth it. Personally, I’m so
glad that the sequel picked up where the first film had left off; meaning we
got to continue on the journey with The Parr family and didn’t have to struggle
with a time-jump and didn’t have to face Jack-Jack not being a baby anymore.
The Incredibles 2 was well worth the fourteen year wait and
if you haven’t already – I urge you all to get down to your local cinema and
watch it. For those who have seen it; who were your favourite characters, and
what did you enjoy most about it? Let me know below!
I've seen it twice already I love it so much! Completely agree with all your reasons it was worth the wait too just wish Edna had a little more screen time as I love her! Great film though!
