Book Recommendations: Part Ten

August is here, which means ‘August’ by Taylor Swift is legally required to be played on loop and it also means that we’re less than a month away until we can finally move on from summer and focus on all things autumn and Halloween! Here are a few book recommendations to see you through this month. If You Still Recognise Me by Cynthia So A book celebrating queerness and the world of fandom, fanfiction and found family. The story follows Elsie as she navigates through her feelings for her long-distance internet best friend, Ada. Elsie decides that the best way to show Ada how she feels is through a grand life-changing gesture for someone close to Ada. Elsie is ready to go on an adventure for the sake of her romance and for the sake of repairing an old broken connection. However, Elsie did not account for her long-lost childhood best friend, Joan, to come back into Elsie’s life; wanting to repair their own broken connection. We get to witness Elsie’s summer of navigating love, f...

Book Recommendations: Part Nine

What better way to kick off July than with a few new books to add to your TBR. In all honesty, May was a slower reading month for me because it was a super busy month. We visited two different Disney parks which was magical and then a lot of time was spent recovering from two different trips. My reading got a bit better in June and I definitely have high hopes for how much I’ll get read this summer. Anyway, enough of my incessant rambling and on with the list… The Cousins by Karen McManus This book follows three cousins; Aubrey, Milly and Jonah Story. They don’t know each other that well but they each receive a letter from their wealthy grandma – whom they’ve never met – inviting them to work at her island resort for the summer. Since their parents were all disinherited and cut out of their mother’s life before the cousins were even born; it’s clear that they have no choice and are going to the island for the summer in the hopes that they, and the parents, can get back into th...

Book Recommendations: Part Eight

With it now being March, we can happily say that Spring and all that it brings - lighter days, later sunsets and hopefully better weather – is just round the corner. To keep you going until then, here are a few more books you may want to add to your TBR and maybe help get you out of the reading slump so many of us have fallen victim to the past couple of weeks… The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun This book became a fast favourite for me and it’s one of those reads that sticks with you; as do the characters. Creating fairy tale romances for the long-running dating show Ever After is something Dev is a pro at. He’s a producer on the reality show and he knows how to concoct the perfect love story. However, Dev has his work cut out for him when the show brings in Charlie as their leading bachelor. Charlie is far from the ‘Prince Charming’-esque standards that the show is used to and getting through to him and trying to get him to connect with the women contestants on the show fa...

Book Recommendations: Part Seven

Before I start, let’s take a moment to be grateful that January is over. I apologise to anyone with birthdays in January or if you really enjoy the month, but it genuinely feels like it lasts forever, and this year was no different. A new month also means a new book recommendations blog post and I am so excited to share these with you all!   The Paths of Marriage by Mala Kumar    This book spans three generations of Indian and  Indian-American  women. Each one of them faces their own hardships, battles and struggles throughout their lives. Lakshmi, an incredibly smart student living in poverty in India who marries and immigrates to America in order to provide the absolute best for her family. Years later, Pooja, her daughter, is forced into an arranged marriage which causes a huge strain in relationship between mother and daughter. And then, Deepa – Pooja’s daughter – a lesbian who is not out to her family. The story showcases all three POVs of these diff...

Book Recommendations: Part Six

Happy new year and welcome to the sixth instalment of my book recommendations series. I took a bit of a break from my blog during the festive season, but I’m ready to step back to it now with recommendations, ramblings and the occasional review. To kick start 2022, allow me to share three new books to add to your TBR... Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé This incredibly poignant YA thriller had me gripped throughout. The story follows Devon and Chiamaka. Both are the only two Black students at the highly illustrious Niveus Private Academy. Devon is a talented musician who keeps his head down and Chiamaka is a head girl who knows what she wants in life. Both have their secrets that are soon exposed by an anonymous texter known only as Aces. Aces makes sure that Devon and Chiamaka know that neither of them are in control here and that Aces holds all the power over their lives and will do everything to destroy them; no matter how dangerous things get for them. This book truly de...

Book Recommendations Based on Taylor Swift songs

Being both a Taylor Swift fan and an avid reader means that I’ve, on numerous occasions, found myself listening to a Taylor song and thinking about a certain character or a book. I’ve seen a few people do this trend on both TikTok and Instagram, so I thought I’d have a go of it too and recommend you a book that I’ve read based on a Taylor Swift song that you love. ·          If you love The Lucky One by Taylor Swift, you should read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. ‘Everybody loves pretty, everybody loves cool. So overnight you look like a sixties queen’ Okay, let’s be real. I couldn’t write this blog post and not include this book. It’s packed full of moments and characters that will make you think of a plethora of Taylor Swift songs, but this one in particular always stands out to me. For more about the book, including trigger and content warnings, click here .   ·      ...

Book Recommendations: Part Five

Happy November! Anyone else been streaming Red Taylor’s Version all day? Everyone say thank you Miss Swift for providing November’s soundtrack! I truly can’t believe how close we are to the end of the year. Which means this blog post is the penultimate entry in my Book Recommendation Series for this year. I really am enjoying doing them, so they’ll definitely carry on into next year. Now for some recommendations this month… This Poison Heart by Kalynn Bayron I read ‘Cinderella is Dead’ at the beginning of the year and immediately fell in love. So, when I heard that Kalynn Bayron was releasing another book – I was so excited. And she did not disappoint. ‘This Poison Heart’ is most definitely one of my favourite reads of this year. The story follows Briseis and her powerful, magical and sometimes deadly plant power. Briseis is left a huge estate in her late aunt’s will so along with her mothers, Bri leaves Brooklyn behind and heads to the estate in rural New York for the Summer....

Book Recommendations: Part Four

I can only apologise for the lack of posts here recently – life definitely got in the way once again. However, I’m back for the fourth instalment of ‘Book Recommendations’ and seeing as this is spooky month – I’ve selected books that are perfect reads for the season… Cemetery Boys by Aidan Thomas You know you’re old when you’re reading YA books and you immediately adopt the characters in your head as your children and that was most definitely the case for me reading ‘Cemetery Boys’. The story follows Yadriel; whose traditional Latinx family are struggling to accept his gender. Determined to prove that he is a real brujo, Yadriel, with the help of his cousin/best friend, Maritza, performs a ritual to summon and help set free the ghost of their recently deceased cousin. However, things don’t go to plan when Yadriel accidentally summons the ghost of Julian Diaz – branded the ‘school’s bad boy’ in life. Yadriel soon realises that he and Julian – who is not ready to move on until h...

Book Recommendations: Part Three

This month’s entry comes a little later than the previous two but I’m excited to be sharing the third post in this series and sharing a few new book recommendations with you all… Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid Starting the list off with another Taylor Jenkins Reid book! The story follows the (fictional) band ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ who suddenly broke up at the height of their fame in the 70s. Everyone knows of this rock and roll band, but nobody knows the secrets behind the famous faces – until now. The story of Daisy, young and daydreaming whilst living in LA, with a singing voice nobody can forget. Then there’s ‘The Six’ with frontman Billy Dunne who’s facing impending fatherhood whilst also battling his own demons. We see as Daisy Jones & The Six are created, their rise to stardom, the problems they face individually and together as a band and just how Daisy and Billy’s lives get tangled up in a web of success and highly charged emotions. (Trigger/...

Book Recommendations: Part Two

I can’t believe it’s been a month since my first ‘Book Recommendations’ post. I had so much fun writing it and received positive feedback for it, so I thought I’d do another one. I’m thinking of doing them monthly (aiming to drop them on the 7 th of each month) because I love sharing books that I’ve really enjoyed reading. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid If you know me at all, then you’ll know that I haven’t shut up about this book since reading it. I’m also convinced that Taylor Swift read this book and decided to make it her entire personality because so many of her songs can relate to the story. And who can blame her really? The story follows Hollywood icon Evelyn Hugo as she recalls the story of her life, a forbidden love and her various marriages. Evelyn opens up to journalist Monique Grant who learns there is so much more to Evelyn than meets the eye – but will Monique like everything she learns about Evelyn? A tale full of emotion, the ruthless...

Book Recommendations: Part One

As I’ve mentioned before, reading is a form of escapism for me and I absolutely love getting lost in the pages and sucked into a new world. I was debating on whether I should publish a blog post sharing book recommendations based on what I’ve read recently and after asking around and receiving positive feedback, I decided that I would go ahead with it. I shared one list of book recommendations back in February for LGBT History Month, but from now on I will try and share a post with a few book recommendations every so often. The books I share will be diverse and will cover different genres (a lot of YA and romance stories) and I will also be sure to include trigger warnings. Anyway, enough of me babbling on and onto the list… One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston Let me start off by saying this book is everything .   I was completely obsessed with it when I was reading it and I definitely cried at least three times during and after finishing it. The story follows cynical August who b...
